Spring 2012 Classes!

Working Effectively with Publishers and Editors

Saturday, May 5, 2012, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Loft Literary Center
1011 Washington Avenue South,, Minneapolis, MN  55415

One of the most common fears and frustrations authors experience is how to maintain the integrity of their work while at the same time considering the changes requested by the publisher, editor, or other publishing professional. In the beginning, the revisions they have asked you to make can feel overwhelming and inauthentic to what you are trying to convey as an author. The good news is that you can satisfy the needs of the publisher and remain true to your vision. In this single-session class, students will learn how to create positive collaborations with publishers, what changes they can and cannot live with, how to make sense of contradictory advice, and much more. This class is open to all levels of nonfiction and fiction writers.

Updated for Spring 2012! Putting Your Wisdom into Words

Saturday, May 12, 2012, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Loft Literary Center
1011 Washington Avenue South,, Minneapolis, MN  55415

New for 2012, this successful single-session class has been expanded to include additional in-class writing time and exercises to facilitate students in developing their books further. We will focus on the process of writing nonfiction books for the current mind body spirit (MBS) market and discuss the various models (memoir, self-help, how-to, personal development, etc.) that can help guide and organize our writing. Learn how to turn your expertise and experience into books, determine your audience, research publishers, and much more. Discover how to revisit your manuscript and your ideas from a different perspective and with fresh eyes. If you have the dream of becoming a published writer but don’t know where to start, this workshop is for you. You’ll meet other MBS authors who share your passion for these subjects in an encouraging and respectful environment. This class is open to all levels of writers, including authors with personal stories of inspiration and alternative spirituality.
